Apogee Signs Contract with The University of Texas To Provide Telecommunications Services

AUSTIN (November 1, 2001) - Apogee Telecom, Inc., a leading provider of local, long distance and broadband services to university communities, has signed a 5-year contract with The University of Texas, becoming UT's preferred contracted provider of telecommunication services.

As part of the deal, Apogee will provide the more than 60,000 students, staff and faculty that live off-campus with a direct, authenticated connection to UT's network. In return, Apogee will receive marketing assistance from UT that will help the company provide services to off-campus dorms and other student-oriented properties to provide voice and high-speed data services to the students.

"This is a tremendous growth opportunity for Apogee," said Apogee President and CEO Chuck Brady. "With UT as our partner, we are very confident that we can satisfy our business objectives as well as help UT fulfill its educational mission."

Apogee will help UT offer broadband access to UT's resources, such as online registration systems, course web pages, library catalogs, virtual office hours and streaming lectures. And at a time when universities, in general, are adjusting to financial pressures, Apogee will build out the infrastructure necessary to generate new revenue streams and reduce costs.
