As Apogee strives to meet the evolving needs of higher education, we´re pleased to offer our Secure Intercept Service (SIS). While there are many variables affecting whether or not an institution is required to comply with CALEA, a number of institutions and entities have indicated that they need a simple, low-cost solution to achieve CALEA compliance. Our service is designed to meet the needs of those groups.
As the largest residential network service provider to higher ed, Apogee was required to comply with CALEA across all of our client campuses. As such, we are able to leverage our economy of scale to provide this service at no charge to our current ResNet clients as well as offer a cost effective stand alone service (Trusted Third Party/TTP) for higher ed.
Our service is specifically designed to address certain data security, confidentiality, and authentication issues that are unique to higher ed and important in preserving the privacy and security of your students, faculty and staff.
The FCC has indicated that another alternative to TTP service is network outsourcing. Our core business (outsourced ResNet), in use today by many higher ed institutions also includes full CALEA compliance at no cost. For all campuses that Apogee currently provides managed ResNet service we are also providing our Secure Intercept Service for the administrative side of the network at no additional cost.
Apogee is not providing any legal guidance on this complicated area of the law, but is simply here to provide an FCC approved alternative to higher education groups that determine that CALEA compliance is needed. Each institution should consult their own legal counsel to determine if they are exempt from CALEA.
